Crisis Response Training

The Choices Prevention Programs Office provides training and regional coordination for Safe School Plans Training and Crisis Response Training.

The State Superintendent of Public Instruction and State Attorney General created the School/Law Enforcement Partnership to ensure that every student will be able to attend safe schools. In partnership with the California Department of Education, the Tulare County Office of Education's Choices Office each year presents training opportunities designed to meet the needs of schools as they prepare their Safe School Plan and develop a Crisis Response protocol. Assistance is provided to develop a collaborative safe school planning process and produce, or update a comprehensive plan for your school site. The training and Plan are designed to lessen the probability of a crisis; to create and define a school incident command system; to bring together services during a crisis; and debriefing and support.

Safe School Plans Training
  • Safe School planning, as required by SB 187, assists in raising test scores; reduces staff burnout and turnover; helps school teams link many existing educational support programs and resources; and helps schools compete for funding to address their educational and safe school needs.
  • Technical assistance is provided to schools to help them connect with community agencies that respond in an emergency situation.
Crisis Response Training
  • Crisis Response training is designed to provide awareness, knowledge, and skills to assist school personnel in developing crisis response or disaster preparedness plans that meet the federal and state requirements, including the Standardized Emergency Management System (SEMS).
  • In addition, participants are assisted in developing skills to assist school personnel in testing their crisis response plan using a variety of simulation techniques.
  • Technical assistance is provided to schools to help them connect with community agencies that respond in an emergency situation.
The training is intended for district and school site administrators, law enforcement personnel, counselors, parents, mental health personnel, and interested members of the community.
