ERS Portal In-services

An ERS staff member will visit your site and provide in-service training that highlights the resources and services schools receive when they contract for Library Media or Portal services. If your staff has devices available, this in-service will also include a hands-on experience logging into the ERSportal, using the online media, and, for our full-service clients, a tutorial on browsing and booking materials in the Follett Destiny catalog. The presentation takes approximately one hour.

Learning Resource Display Center (textbooks)

Educational Resource Services houses the California Learning Resources Display Center, one of 23 in the state. All textbooks for grades kindergarten to eight that have been adopted by the State Board of Education are housed here for the public to view. Teachers come from all over the region to select materials from these for use in their classrooms. Although the items do not check out, sample copies can be ordered from the publishers. ERS hosts a yearly textbook showcases to allow publishers to demonstrate their adopted materials to teachers.

For more information, contact Debra Lockwood at debral@ers.tcoe.org or (559) 651-3042.

Library & Multimedia Center Contracts

The full service Library Media Services contract allows teachers unlimited access to the ERS Portal and Kids/Teen Portals, as well as the ability to borrow from a circulating collection of approximately 25,000 videos, books (in English and Spanish), book kits, puppets, source documents, simulations, sound recordings, art prints and professional development materials. These materials may be ordered online, by phone at (559) 651-3031, via e-mail or in person, and can be delivered to your site by our ERS Staff. Our Library Media Supervisor acts as the Librarian of Record for sites without a professional librarian (as per state regulation compliance), provides consultant services relative to the selection and implementation of technology, instructional materials, development of library programs, library facility planning, and assists in the training of library personnel. Finally, staff from contracting schools may also visit our Teacher Resource Center where they can make copies, laminate materials, print posters and use die-cuts at a reduced fee.

An ERS Portal Services contract includes online access to the ERS Library and Multimedia Portal and Kids/Teen Portal along with on-site training detailing how to best incorporate these resources into classroom learning.

Both of the above contracts include a standing invitation for the contracting site’s library personnel to attend a meeting developed just for school library staff. The Library Multimedia Network meetings are held every other month at the Doe Avenue Complex and are filled with ideas and practical suggestions for best practices in library media centers.

For more information, contact Sara Torabi by e-mail at sarat@ers.tcoe.org or by phone at (559) 651-3031.

These materials may be ordered over the phone, on the Internet, or in person, and will be delivered and picked up by our ERS delivery staff. Each school is eligible to receive consultant services relative to the selection and implementation of technology, use of multimedia materials, and classroom instruction techniques.
