UC Merced / SCICON Field Station

A partnership for scientific research in the Sierra Nevada foothills

UC Merced / SCICON Field Station

The long-imagined UC Merced/SCICON Field Station is being developed as a partnership between the university and the Tulare County Office of Educationís acclaimed outdoor education program as a research site for UC scientists to study the unique ecological issues of the Central Valley. The partnership plans to work with other land management agencies, including the National Park Service and neighboring Sequoia-Kings Canyon National Park. In addition, the field station will engage students and educators at the primary, secondary, and postsecondary levels in research and career development.

On Saturday, November 17, a festive evening of fun, food, and entertainment will kick off the fundraising efforts necessary to build and sustain the new Field Station. The evening will also serve to honor Tulare County Superintendent of Schools Jim Vidak – whose vision it was to create the field station – for his 57 years of service to the students of Tulare County. Included in the evening's events, which will be held at the International Agri-Center in Tulare, will be a social hour and dinner, entertainment, live auction, and a variety of raffle and donation opportunities. All proceeds from the eveningís events will be used to develop the UC Merced/SCICON Field Station.

Event information, sponsorship opportunities, and response cards are available using the links to the left. Please help in the development of this exciting new adventure as we honor Mr. Vidak for his many years of exemplary service to education.
