The Vision

Dear Friends of Education,

On behalf of the University of California, Merced and the Tulare County Office of Education, we thank you for your interest in supporting the development of our Field Station. This Field Station partnership is the first of hopefully many collaborations between our institutions designed to support scientists and engage students at the primary, secondary and postsecondary levels.

Rendering of Field Station indoors

The UC Merced/SCICON Field Station is envisioned as a site for UC scientists to study the unique ecological issues of the Central Valley – a critical and understudied region in California for environmental research. The project will also foster opportunities for students and educators to participate in and contribute to research involving water, pollution, land use and conservation, and plant and animal life.

Rendering of Field Station outdoors

The Field Station is being designed with over 1,000 square feet of flexible indoor research and classroom space, plus outdoor work space and housing for visiting scientists. As the project develops, we foresee the creation of student internships and partnerships with other UC Field Stations.

We appreciate your support of the UC Merced/SCICON Field Station and the opportunities we will create to support research in the Central Valley and engage young people in real world science education.
