Slick Rock Student Film Festival coming May 12

Slick Rock Student Film Festival The Tulare County Office of Education is preparing for the annual Slick Rock Student Film Festival - Central California's largest student film competition. Middle and high school students from throughout the Central Valley have submitted over 650 films to the festival, which will be held at the Fox Theatre in downtown Visalia (300 W. Main St.) on May 12.

Students have created videos in various categories ranging from 30-second Public Service Announcements and animated films to music videos and action/dramas. Middle school students could enter seven categories, including General Advertisement, Public Service Announcement (PSA), Documentary, 5-Minute Blockbuster, Alcohol/Drug Prevention PSA and Nutrition & Physical Activity PSA. High school students (grades 9-12), could choose from categories which include: Suicide Prevention PSA, General PSA, "Come Play" Advertisement (Tulare County Tourism), General Advertisement, Documentary, Music Video, Animation (2D or 3D), 5-Minute Blockbuster, Alcohol/Drug Prevention PSA, Bullying Prevention PSA, Sports Highlights, News Broadcast, and Nutrition & Physical Activity PSA.

The festival will begin Friday morning, May 12 at 9:00 a.m. with screenings of films receiving a "Premiere Cut" designation. The screenings will continue into the afternoon. At 5:30 p.m., students who played a central role in producing "Premiere Cut" films (along with their advisors) are eligible to participate in the Limo/Red Carpet Walk. The official awards ceremony will begin at 6:30 p.m.
