CalPERS Long-Term Care Program

CalPERS Long-Term Care (LTC) coverage pays for the extended care that would be needed when, due to a chronic illness, injury or frailty of old age, help is required with basic activities such as dressing, bathing, or eating. LTC plans can help pay for extended care at home, care in an assisted living facility, adult day care center, or in a nursing home. Typically, health insurance and Medicare pay for no more than 100 days in a nursing facility for any reason. After that, care would be paid for out-of-pocket by the patient or by a LTC policy, if one is in effect. The CalPERS Long-Term Care Program is one option to consider.

The CalPERS Long-Term Care Program is available to all California public employees, retirees and their spouses, parents, parents-in-law and siblings (age 18 and older).

Information regarding the CalPERS Long-Term Care Program can be found online at the CalPERS website. To review highlights and key features of the program, calculate a premium rate for a plan, or request an application kit, visit the CalPERS website at www.calpers.ca.gov or call 1-800-266-1050.

The CalPERS Long-Term Care Customer Service Center can help enrolled participants with change of address, change in coverage, claiming of benefits and other matters. They can also answer questions regarding status of application from people who have already applied. The customer service center can be reached at 1-800-982-1775, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
