Red Ribbon Week

Red Ribbon Week is an annual opportunity for schools to make a visible stand against drugs and to show their commitment to a drug-free lifestyle through the symbol of the red ribbon. This year, committee members – Therese Arnold, Perla Arredondo, Jaime Burnitzki, Vicky Contreras, Perla Estrada, Jennifer Fisher, Allie Gutierrez, Ivette Lopez, Rachel Nuñez, Maria Ochoa, Margarita Quintana, Alma Rooney, Jessikah Saechao, Dawn Sampson Padilla, Yesenia Tadeo, Taurie Thayer, Michelle Trevino, Makena Tyler, Erica Villarreal, Lorena White, and Azulie Wilson – have chosen to align with the national theme:

Life is Your Journey - Travel Drug Free

* Red Ribbon Kick-off *
Jeans Days in October

Start the FUNdraising early and wear your jeans on Friday, October 12; Thursday, October 18; and/or Friday, October 19. Donate $5 per Friday or $10 for all three Fridays. Make your donation with a Red Ribbon committee member and receive an enameled red ribbon lapel pin to wear with your jeans.

Back by popular demand this year will be our Red Ribbon Raffle. We will once again be asking each department to donate a gift basket or other item for the drawing. So all you department organizers, start thinking about ideas for your group's contribution. Individuals and outside companies may also donate prizes. Last year, we raffled 31 items, several worth in excess of $100! The bar has been set - let's see what we can do this year! We always knew TCOE had the best employees! A list of last year's donors and winners is online to help you get started with some ideas.

All proceeds from the week will be donated to the UC Merced/SCICON Field Station. The new center, which is adjacent to TCOE's Circle J/Norris Ranch in Springville, will be used as a research site for UC scientists to study the unique ecological issues of the Central Valley. It will also engage educators and students of all ages in research and career development. To learn more about the field station, visit
