Bright Future Program Ron Pekarek, M.S., BCBA
Program Manager
(559) 747-3984, Ext. 6811

The Bright Future Program provides in-home behavioral services for children with autism or other severe behavior problems and developmental delays. The principles of applied behavioral analysis and other evidence-based methods are used to decrease challenging behaviors and teach skills. Ongoing parent consultation and training is provided to generalize skills learned during individualized instruction.

Highly Qualified Personnel

Bright Future Program The Bright Future Program is supervised by two local Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBA), including one with a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology and one Certified PECS Implementer. All Behavior Intervention Specialists (supervisors) posess, or are working toward certification as, Master's level BCBA. Eighty percent of our interventionists posess a Bachelor's degree in psychology or a related field, and half of them are Spanish-speaking. All staff members are provided with ongoing training in many areas, including:
  • Overview of Autism
  • Positive Behavior Support
  • Visual Supports
  • Data Collection and Progress Monitoring
  • Behavioral Teaching Techniques
  • PECS
  • Incidental Teaching
  • Working with Families
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention for Autism
  • Assessment of Basic Language and Learning Skills (ABLLS)
  • Social Skills
  • Evidence-based Practices for Autism
Because of the support of the Tulare County Office of Education, most of our interventionists (BIAs) are full-time employees resulting in low staff turnover which, in turn, brings stability for our children and families (typlically one or two BIAs are assigned per family). We have the ability to serve families in remote areas and can spend additional time in school settings, if needed, to promote program generalization. Our exisitng relationships with school districts provides an incentive for the children to attend, and be successful in, their local school program.

In additional to highly-trained staff, all Bright Future trainings are offered at no charge to parents and school district personnel.

Bright Start / Bright Future Collaboration

Bright Future Program Consistency in personnel, training, and supervision between the Bright Start and Bright Future Programs affords children with autism exiting the Bright Start Infant Program a seamless transition to the Bright Future Program. Identified children can be assessed while in Bright Start and begin receiving Bright Future services as soon as they turn three years of age, pending Regional Center approval. Services can be provided during a critical window of opportunity, eliminating an additional assessment to initiate programming.

Bright Outcomes

The Assessment of Basic Language and Learning Skills (ABLLS) is used to guide program goals. Programs are individualized to each child. The goal for young children is to "learn how to learn" and be successful in their family, community and school. On average, over 60 goals are mastered during the first six months of programming, including:
  • Communication skills
  • Social interactions
  • Play and leisure skills
  • Daily living and self-help skills
  • Pre-academic skills
We maintain a strong track record of getting students into their local school programs.

WebABLLS Online Resource

Each child has an individualized WebABLLS "profile" that corresponds to their ABLLS program goals. This online resource allows parents to view their child's current goals and track progress. It also provides video examples of instruction and allows staff to update student progress on a regular basis.
