The Lion King Jr. 2021

Acting Bootcamps:

Acting Bootcamp instruction is provided by TCOE Theatre Company director Bethany Rader. Participants will study many aspects of theatre and performance including character development, scene study, monologue presentation, and/or dramatic critique. Prior acting experience is welcome but not required.

Middle & High School Broadway Basics Acting Bootcamp:

Students are asked to bring a 1-2 minute monologue of their choosing to the first meeting. Over the course of the four weeks, the class will work on finding and digging into characters, selecting the right monologue for different auditions, and prepping the piece for that audition. Students will work their monologue until it is ready to perform in front of each other. The final element of the course involves giving/receiving feedback from fellow actors because as Sanford Meisner said, “You can't learn to act unless you're criticized. If you tie that criticism to your childhood insecurities you'll have a terrible time. Instead, you must take criticism objectively, pertaining it only to the work being done.”

Offered for four weeks on Mondays.
Feb 28; Mar 7, 14, and 21

Staged Reading: The Curious Savage

TCOE Theatre Company is VERY excited to try something completely new to our program and many of our students this season!

Participants will present a staged reading of the play The Curious Savage by John Patrick. A staged reading is a form of theatre without much in terms of sets, costumes, or technical elements. The actors study and rehearse the work beforehand but bring their scripts onto stage for the performance. Minimal blocking will be used to help the action in addition to some lighting and sound. A staged reading is a fun fast-paced way to take a deep dive into character development without doing a full-blown show.

Auditions will not be required unless enrollment numbers exceed capacity. In that case, auditions will be held during the first meeting.

Open only to grades 9-12.
Rehearsals: Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., May 9 - May 21*
Final Run Through: Saturday, May 21 at 2:00 p.m.*
Performance: Saturday May 21 at 7:00 p.m.*
*Above times are subject to change and can be negotiated in advance to accommodate participant schedules.
Price: $30 (Scholarships are available and no student is ever turned away due to an inability to pay.)

Location: TCOE's Doe Ave. campus in the Valley Oak room.
