Academic Services
To promote active and engaged learning and foster student achievement, CASP offers academic support designed to complement and expand upon concepts presented during the school day. Our goal is to promote a love of learning in all students.
CASP staff collaborates with school leaders frequently in order to develop and maintain a solid understanding of core day pacing guides, instructional strategies, and classroom management techniques at each CASP campus.
Students are able to strengthen literacy skills at CASP through a variety of activities such as silent reading, journaling, writing to pen pals, performing and writing plays, topic presentations, and read alongs.
Enrichment Services
Real-world enrichment opportunities provide students with an exceptional learning experience at CASP. Designed to be engaging, informative, and to encourage a love of lifelong learning and exploration, activities include visits from community members such as the fire or police department, “Zoo to You” events where students can see animals up-close and hear amazing and fun facts about them, and College and Career presentations. These opportunities make learning come alive and add relevance to the after-school experience, including during the summer break at sites that offer Summer School programs.
Special programs developed in collaboration with community partners are also offered at multiple sites and include Girl Scouts, Robotics, a community farmers market, and music classes. Students are also encouraged and provided support to participate in special events and activities such as National History Day and the Tulare County STEAM Expo. Other activities include the CHOICES TUPE / Friday Night Live Anti-Tobacco Bowl, the CHOICES Friday Night Live Lip Sync Contest, the Tulare County Office of Education’s annual Poetry and Prose event and Red Ribbon Week.
Physical Education Services
Physical activities focus on safety and fun in a structured, inclusive environment in which all students are active participants. Activities include non-competitive basketball, cheer, flag football, and soccer. Tutors are provided training in the development and implementation of a variety of physical activities as part of an annual Summer Training Institute. Tutors also receive training during regular professional development opportunities through Saturday Academies offered six times per year.
Healthy choices are encouraged through special programs conducted in partnership with the University of California Cooperative Extension and FoodLink for Tulare County. These include a Cooking Academy where students learn to prepare simple, healthy recipes as well as a farmers market where students become ambassadors for health as they distribute free produce to community members. They learn about the nutritional value of items and share that information as food is distributed.
